I picked up a Surly Nice front rack for my Thorn Sherpa this past week. This bike is supposed to be my world traveler expedition bike. Hence the 26" wheels and the uber burley Tubus Cargo rack on the back and the Surly rack on the front.
The Surly Nice rack uses a lot of hardware to mount to a bike, but it seems quite solid once in place. It took longer to figure what hardware to use then to actually install the rack.
I like the top platform and the fact you can mount your panniers as high or low riders to fine tune the bike's handling.
The instructions are a bit overwhelming at first glance, but once you read them over quickly put them aside and install the rack using some common sense.

The more I look at this rack, the more I want it on my Goat...
Both me and my son have these racks on our bikes. So far, they've held up fine - we've pedaled 3600 miles so far. We're hoping they'll make it the whole 20,000, and I see no reason why they won't.
I really like the fact that I can use the front as both a low rider for my panniers, and still have the platform for our pot. It works great!

Cool story you got here. It would be great to read a bit more about that matter. Thanks for posting that information.
