I don't know for certain, but my guess would be that it was a fairly inexpensive hub. It was on stock Specialized road bike so they probably bought a mountain of them from some Taiwanese factory at a low OEM per unit cost.
I could be totally wrong though.
It just looked kind of neat at the bike shop so I thought it deserved a Kodak moment...=-)
